Nature vs. Mechanical
My main focus on this piece was to do a different depiction on nature vs. mechanical. The true outlook on this artwork was to do complete opposites. So, I decided to do human vs. nature instead. By giving the center of the flower a human eyeball, and mountains sprouting human feet, I believe I captured a indifferent emotion. My medium used for this piece was just pencil, I did not add color because I was trying create a eerie feeling when it came to just a white and gray color scale. I struggled adding realistic features to the eyeball, because I made the subject small, so fixing the details in the pupil was a challenge.
During this piece, I learned how to draw feet. In previous pieces, I mastered hands, but in this piece I decided to go a different route. The feet were honestly the best part for me, and I'm happy how this turned out.
I will approach future projects like these a little more seriously, I was hoping to finish this but unfortunately I didn't.
This piece also displays my artistic strengths. I am strong when it comes to value with graphite pencil. I believe my shading in the mountain of the left foot came out well, it showed the dimension.
But the values in the flower to me, was a weakness. Some petals were too dark, not catching the appropriate light. I also should have shape the flowers more into a triangle shape, to attract the eye. There was too much to the left side of the photo than the right.
This piece was also my favorite piece. This piece exhibits the way I think outside of the box and what I'm trying to give through my artwork. I really want others to look at my work and try to imagine why I drew what I drew, or to grow a story of what they see from my pieces. This piece gave me the opportunity to free myself, and gave me the chance to be different and also create something beautiful as well.
Acrylic Wash
This was my most struggling pieces. Surprisingly, I enjoyed doing it though it was a hassle being patient with adding layer after layer after layer. But, the results were actually coming along. The material I used to create this piece was Acrylic paint and water. Making the paint thin, I continued to add layer to give the animal depth and make the floor realistic. I struggled with the light fur mostly, getting the right color, and the layering of the white fur. Sometimes the paint would become too watery or too thick. Sometimes the layer would be watery, but too dark. It was somewhat of a challenge, but one that became satisfying. The white fur is also a feature that is my most successful. As I continued to layer, the fur was becoming more thicker and and more like fur.
As I move forward with this project, I must improve my painting skills, and to become more patient. The fur could have had more detail if only I was more patient to add it. I felt like it needed more.
I would change how I use my time, and practice working faster and pacing myself to get my artwork done and completed.
